Orthopaedics
Our orthopaedic department at NiVS is very active and dedicated to diagnosing and treating conditions which affect a pet’s bones, joints, ligaments and tendons. At NiVS, we understand that it can be distressing when a pet has their mobility affected and our goal is to offer advanced orthopaedic management and treatment for a wide range of conditions.
Overview
We use advanced imaging including digital x-ray and CT scans to help provide accurate diagnoses for patients and to work with pet parents to formulate a plan which is tailored to each individual pet. Our goal is to help improve mobility, alleviate pain and enhance the overall quality of life for patients who have compromised mobility.
Patients who have orthopaedic surgery often require comprehensive advanced nursing to ensure that they are supported post-operatively with rehabilitation and recovery. Our advanced nursing care team supports complex postoperative patient care through pain management, physiotherapy and personalised after-care plans to ensure that pets are kept comfortable.
Orthopaedic service at NiVS includes and is not limited to:
- Tibial plateau levelling osteotomy (TPLO)
- Cruciate ligament repair
- Repair of complex and simple fractures
- Patellar luxation corrective surgery
- Pantarsal arthrodesis
- Pancarpal arthrodesis
- Arthrodesis for elbow/stifle/shoulder
- Hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia management
- Total hip replacement
- Juvenile symphysiodesis
- Arthroscopy
- Angular limb deformity corrective surgery
- Humeral Intercondylar Fissure (HIF)
- Management of pain for osteoarthritis
- Staging, management and limb salvage for musculoskeletal neoplasia.
Outpatient CT Referrals for referring vets
We offer outpatient CT referrals for pets needing advanced imaging for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
