Facilities
Northern Ireland Veterinary Specialists (NiVS) is equipped with state-of-the art diagnostic and treatment facilities and has the ability to offer a multitude of diagnostic treatments and procedures, some of which can only be found in Northern Ireland at NiVS.
Client Journey
From the moment that you step into Northern Ireland Veterinary Specialists, you will experience a friendly welcome from our receptionist team and a relaxed environment. As a commitment to our furry feline and canine friends, we have created separate waiting areas to help reduce fear, anxiety and stress.
We are an accredited silver status cat friendly practice and provide cosy corners and barriers where kitties can’t view any canine companions.
Our consultation rooms are bright and spacious with floor to ceiling windows especially designed to give pets an opportunity to view the outside scenery.
Our building is fully accessible for clients who have limited mobility and we have a dedicated client car park, in addition to an outside exercise area for pets.
State of the Art Surgical Theatres
Our two spacious operating theatres are purpose-built and would rival any human medical theatre. Our team has the ability to perform a range of surgeries including soft tissue, cardiology, neurosurgery and orthopaedics.
Our state-of-the-art theatres feature advanced diagnostic monitoring for anaesthesia monitoring, patient ventilators, a high definition arthroscopy system, fluoroscopy, a 16-slice CT scanner and the capability to perform high precision nerve blocks for delivering advanced pain relief and comprehensive patient care.
Diagnostic Imaging
NiVS is at the forefront of diagnostic imaging in Northern Ireland. Our practice is equipped with a 16 slice cutting-edge CT scanner which aids in highly detailed precision imaging and a more efficient patient diagnosis. We offer both out-patient CT scanning and full referral CT scanning.
We also offer advanced ultrasound imaging. This non-invasive diagnostic equipment permits us to look at internal structures to assess patients in real-time for the progression of medical conditions, in addition to guiding procedures like drainage of fluid and ultrasound-guided biopsies.
Our digital radiology suite is equipped with cutting edge digital imaging which allows for highly detailed x-rays and minimal radiation exposure to ensure a safer experience for patients. Images can be assessed by expert board-certified radiologists to provide an efficient and accurate assessment.
Cardiology
A heart abnormality with a pet can be unsettling for pet parents. With the only RVCS Specialist Cardiologist in Northern Ireland and Ireland, Julie Hamilton-Elliott offers both diagnostic and surgical interventional cardiology.
Diagnostic services include blood pressure monitoring, echocardiography and 12 lead ECG which provides a combination of detailed imaging of the heart to assess structure, function and blood flow in addition to rhythm. This allows for early diagnosis and tailored management of cardiovascular issues to ensure the best possible outcome for pets.
A pet who is diagnosed with a heart abnormality is often required to wear a holter device to detect intermittent arrhythmias that may not be captured on an ECG when the pet is at the clinic. Our holters are non-invasive, robust and well tolerated by pets. The holter information helps our team to diagnose and create a customised plan for each pet.
Onsite Laboratory and Diagnostic Testing
Our onsite laboratory gives us the ability to perform lab tests in the practice for urgent results which can help with managing a patient’s care. We also offer endoscopy, bronchoscopy and laparoscopy (keyhole surgery).
Patient Suites
We recognise that it can be scary having your beloved pet away from home and our separate cat and dog suites are designed to help your pet feel comfortable during their stay with us at NiVS.
Our quiet cat room features suites with areas for your cat to stretch, jump and hide depending on their purr-sonality! We add Feliway cat calming pheromones which are diffused consistently to keep our feline friends calm and stress-free.
Our dog suites are spacious, climate-controlled and feature clear perspex fronts which allow for dogs to have a clear view of their surroundings and for our team to observe your pet without disturbing their sleep. Calming spa music plays throughout your pet’s stay to help them with their recovery and our supportive orthopaedic bedding helps to ensure that your pet does not miss any of the home comforts that they are used to in their own home.
We also have a dedicated isolation unit for pets who are staying with us and are contagious. This double-barriered room offers the highest standards of hygiene and has a dedicated air circulatory return to ensure that all pets within the hospital are kept safe.
With a dedicated round-the-clock veterinary team, we ensure that each pet receives the highest level of clinical and compassionate care.
